Choosing the Right Power Supply

This video walks through the steps to determine the right power supply to work with the Entegrity Smart Door/Gate Controller.

When purchasing a power supply system for a Entegrity Smart Door/Gate Controller it is important to consider the option that works best for your facility or gate.

We recommend a 12 volt DC system for a few reasons:

  1. You can power the VIZpin controller directly with 12 volt DC

  2. There are tons of good 12 volt DC electric locks available

  3. There are tons of 12 volt DC power supplies available

  4. You can backup a 12 volt DC with batteries

Make sure that the system will power your lock and VIZpin controller

In this example we use an Altronix AL 125 UL which is a UL rated supply specifically built for electronic locks.

To calculate how much energy is needed it is important to remember that 1amp= 1000 milliamps. The Altronix can supply up to 1 amp or 1000 milliamps. Each Door/Gate Controller needs 20 milliamps and each time lock requires 240milliamps.

This means that to power 1 door there must be a supply of 260 milliamps; 2 doors there must be 520 milliamps; 3 doors must have 780 milliamps. If you need 4 doors hooked up to the system you will need a stronger power supply as 1040 milliamps would be required.

This method could be applied to any lock and Smart Device using the same method.
